To Life! :: Part 6?

This week I summited Camel's Hump! It was so spectacular that it got its own post.

News from the Back Yard:
The bleeding heart is in full bloom.
This morning I heard an Eastern Towhee. I have yet to see this mystery bird.
It rains, and it is cold.
It is still cold.

Things We'll Never Buy in Vermont Again:
Back this week with news from the bathroom! (Don't worry.)
Here are the things I found in the bathroom that I will almost certainly not need to buy in Vermont again.

First up, toilet paper!

Last time we were at the store we had a coupon, but in order for it to be good you had to buy 2. I'm hopeful that we won't need to use all of this toilet paper before June 21st, the date of our closing. Maybe we can leave a few rolls for the next guy, in case he didn't think of it.

(Is that disgusting? Maybe we should just bring them with us.)

According to my calculations, which are usually not accurate, the amount of toilet paper we have allows us to use it up at a rate of 1 roll every 1.67 days. That seems unnecessary.

Second, lotion.

I love all of these, except for the Eucerin, which is Seth's, and which I despise.

Some of these are nearly empty but some are nearly full. I really like buying new lotion, with new scents or new thicknesses, but it will have to wait.

Next, Aloe!

You may be able to deduce from the brands, or the French duplication of each phrase, that these are both products of possibly severe sun burnings in Canada. The green one may or may not have been purchased when I fell asleep on the raft with a towel over my head and upper body but not covering my legs. (doh!) The clear, and newer bottle is definitely from when Paul went water skiing and tubing and burnt his poor back to a crispy crisp. Poor Paul! It was a painful vacation for him.

The green one, being only half way full, is obviously older, and I was lucky we had it when Paul burned his shoulders to a complete and total crisp at the Newport Folk Festival, before venturing up to Vermont for a visit.

Considering that I can use aloe as lotion, I have even less reason to buy new lotion.

Sunscreen!

I was hesitant to even include this because I have my eyes on a new bottle of sunscreen that is extra skin, plant, human, animal, earth, universe friendly, but the truth of the matter is that I don't really need more sunscreen.

I guess we learned our lesson after our severe sunburnings. (See above.)

Lastly, Hair product!

I blame Mom.

For someone who almost entirely does not style her hair, I have amassed a large amount of hair product to use up. I'm pretty sure all but the Aveda will not make the trip to Kentucky with us.

Let us have a moment of silence.

Okay. Does anyone in Vermont want some three quarters of the way full bottles of old hair product? Going once, going twice?

I just realized that I have a container of mousse that I forgot to include in this picture! Oh my GOODNESS!

I could tell you when and why I got each of these containers, but it would probably be immensely boring for you to hear the history of my hair taming efforts, so I'll spare you.

Isn't it interesting, though, the stories that you remember and tie to such mundane objects? When I finish (ha!) that bottle of little got2b hair gel, I'll lose a little reminder of my attempt at travel friendly hair control in Budapest which backfired because I didn't have the appropriate electical converter for my flat iron. When that bottle of green aloe is gone I'm sure to lose all memory of sleeping on rafts and hearing the David Wax Museum and The Avett Brothers for the first time with Tommy and Paul.

Well that was pretty spectacular, I doubt I'll forget it entirely. But I won't be reminded of it every time I use the restroom, which is a little sad.

  1. How old is that green aloe? Because I specifically remember falling asleep on the raft with you with a towel over my head and getting sunburned everywhere else. But I haven't been there in years. Not that it much matters I guess, it just reminded me of sitting on the raft with you :)

It *is* funny how you remember stories around such everyday things. This may be TMI, but I get some "chub rub" on my thighs if I'm wearing a skirt and walking a lot in the summer, so now I put blister block on my legs for such occasions. And every time, I remember going to Washington DC with you guys to visit Andy. As soon as we got there, we went out to dinner, and I guess I seriously underestimated the walking we would be doing because I wore a skirt, and by the end of the night my thighs hurt so bad! But then I also remember seeing the monuments in the middle of the night, trying Ethopian food with you guys for the first time, and road tripping (Paul played DJ most of the way, and that was the first time *I* heard The Avett Brothers!)

  3. Why do I get blamed for your hair product purchases? Funny blog though. I love your pyramid. I'll help use some up.
