It seems like I haven't actually talked to you in such a long time. I've been too busy telling stories and pretending to be serious. (I hope you all know better.)
I've grown slightly weary of reliving Mexico, although it has been more fun the second time around, so here we go with a brief interlude and the first of my To Life! posts in Kentucky.
At some point down the road I will tell you about the heartbreak of leaving Vermont behind, but at this precise moment I'm fully focused on the present. For those who don't know we've settled into a tiny stone cottage in the Center of the Universe. We're surrounded by family, forest and a creek, all of my favorite things. The winter brought a surprising amount of snow, but it still wasn't enough for consistent and true fun. It's warmer now, and we've been eating outside nearly every night. On the weekends I've been able to have coffee outside and bask in my surroundings, watching as bare tree branches grow little buds, burst into flower and form little baby leaves. (You should see how tiny the Sycamore leaves are right now. I've never seen such itty bitty Sycamore leaves!) We recently celebrated our third anniversary and Seth's 32nd birthday.
Anyway I took a walk with my camera and I must admit that I really like some of the shots that I got (here I go being serious again). These are my favourites, there are more on my flickr page.

I've seen all kinds of birds lately. We have a robin who's built her nest quite close:
I saw a Blue-Gray Gnatcatcher for the first time ever! The description in my bird book is really what sealed the deal on identification. All it said was "very active." It was hard to get a focused picture.
Another bird I saw for the first time is the Eastern Towhee. Of course I've heard it all over the place but I actually got a picture of it. It sings "DRINK your TEA-EA-eA-eA-EA!" We have a few of them around and they all sing with a different style. The other day I heard a rather operatic version "drINK your teaeaeaeaeaea" with lots of vibrato throughout.
We have a Wood Thrush family! (You may remember on Facebook when I claimed to have a Hermit Thrush. We don't, but the Wood Thrush still makes me smile.) I call them The Hermits. They sit in the trees around our little valley and sing to each other, and to us. Sometimes it is haunting, sometimes it is like a concert, sometimes it seems like they're a little hoarse and should maybe take a break. They always reduce my stress level by at least 10%, and they've become the most delightful alarm clock I've ever slowly woken up to since we've been able to keep our bedroom window open just a crack during the nights.
I guess that's all for this week! I hope you're enjoying Spring as much as I am!
