It's been a pretty quiet week which, after the last few is a welcome relief. Seth is on spring break, so he's had lots of time to dream up crazy adventures and play around on the internet, and catch up on sleep:
As a result, we discovered (last night) the Alcan 5000, and decided (last night) that we will be participating in 2014. Unfortunately all of the motorcycle spots are full, so we're planning to sign up with a car. This does have some benefits, it will be much more difficult for us to be separated, we'll have heat, and we can switch between driving and navigating. (Just to name a few.) Apparently as soon as we secure the bikes Seth needs to race the Baja 1000 this November, we'll be procuring the makings of a rally car. We also realized we have the makings of a pretty gnarly five year plan: Baja 2013, Alcan 2014, Isle of Man 2015, Dakar Rally 2016, ... any ideas for 2017?
In other news it's been significantly warmer this week than it has previously. On Wednesday I opened the windows and the temperature displayed on the thermostat went UP instead of down! It was pretty exciting. The little flowers and even the daffodils are blooming! (Coincidentally, just as I typed this out the furnace clicked on.)
This weekend is supposed to be in the 60s and sunny! We were thinking about going camping but we're not quite sure if the trails are dry enough for us to be on them yet. Saturday is Seth's birthday, so we'll definitely have some sort of fun. Perhaps we'll grill out and lounge on our deck, that seems to be our go-to celebration!
News From the Back Yard:
The feeder has been a bit less active this week. I think the birds have gotten there fill and aren't so intent on gorging themselves at all hours of the day. The squirrels, on the other hand, are never satisfied and would gorge themselves every second of every day if they had their way.
I did see some juvenile cowbirds, some little ladies and a little male, who humorously looked like an exact miniature replica of last week's picture! I managed to grab some pictures of a little Chickadee who was undeterred by Thunder barking or the squirrel running up the tree. (Or me, fumbling with my camera!) This fella has some chutzpah!
Til next time...
